Vineyard Lutheran School, Clare is the only local school without a school crossing to help keep its students safe and Member for Frome Geoff Brock MP is keen to see this matter addressed as soon as possible.
“I have had recent discussions with Vineyard Lutheran School Principal Michelle Keller on this matter,” Mr Brock said.
“Ms Keller informed me the school did not have a school crossing and no speed restrictions of any kind alerting motorists to slow down when passing the school, which is situated along the busy Main North Road, Clare within the 50km/hour zone.
“It is astonishing that this is the only school in Clare, which has four schools in total in the township, which does not have any speed restrictions for the safety of attending students.”
Mr Brock has taken the matter to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Stephan Knoll MP, and outlined his, and the school’s concerns for the safety of students.
He has asked Minister Knoll to have an inspection of sites near the school to assess the feasibility of implementing a safer way for children to get to and home from school.
“I believe that by designating an official school crossing by the school it will alert motorists to slow down and look out for children, as well as creating an environment of safety when vehicles are required to slow to 25km/hour,” Mr Brock said.
“I look forward to the Minister’s response and a swift decision on the installation of this important safety measure.”
