Nominations are open for the 2020 Australian of the Year Awards and Member for Frome Geoff Brock MP is calling on the community to ensure regional Australians are recognised for the amazing work they do.
January 2020 marks the 60th anniversary of the awards which honour and celebrate great Australians from all walks of life.
“I want regional residents and community groups to think about who, in their community, is great at what they do, who contribute to our society and inspire others around them,” Mr Brock said.
“There are many amazing volunteers, as well as leaders in their fields of endeavour, in our towns, who do wonderful things – they may be well known public figures, or those quietly working in the background.”
Mr Brock said he was asking communities to help identify their local heroes and consider nominating them for the 2020 Awards.
“There are four categories in which people can be recognised – Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (65 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (16-30 years) and Australia’s Local Hero.”
Nominating is easy – visit www.australianoftheyear.org.au by Wednesday, July 31, 2019 or email the Australia Day Council with a list of nominees and they will assist you in completing the nomination, or call 8212 3999.
