A free two-day workshop for parents and carers of children with autism is scheduled for Port Pirie in February and wholeheartedly supported by Member for Frome Geoff Brock.

“This is a great initiative which will provide information about autism and help inform a better understanding of the needs of school aged students on the autism spectrum, and I am pleased to see it being held in Port Pirie for the benefit of Mid North families,” Mr Brock said.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 12 and Wednesday, February 13 from 9.30am to 2.30pm at the Port Pirie Yacht Club in Solomontown.

Attendees will learn about the characteristics, impacts and strategies for autism, understanding behaviour, sensory processing and how to work together with their schools.

“The workshop is being run through Positive Partnerships, a Federal government funded project through the Australian Government Department of Education and Training’s Helping Children with Autism package, and delivered by Autism Spectrum Australia,” Mr Brock said

“Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) has a goal to improve the educational outcomes of school-aged students on the autism spectrum and works with schools, communities and families to deliver evidence-based content through a range of initiatives, including face to face workshops.”

Mr Brock said he encouraged families and caregivers in the region to attend the workshop.
