Federal and State Government funding will contribute to the final piece of the iconic Clare Valley Riesling Trail to be completed at Auburn, and Member for Frome Geoff Brock couldn’t be happier.

This week, the Australian Government announced a $160,000 grant from the Building Better Regions Fund towards the project, while State Government has honoured a commitment made by its predecessors to provide $120,000 of funding for the Trail’s extension.

Estimated to cost $321,000 when complete, the combined grants totalling $280,000 will enable the Riesling Trail Committee to begin the work, which will include the installation of a bridge over the Wakefield River at Auburn and a kilometre of trail surface from the Auburn Railway Station north towards the Taylors Wines road intersection.

Mr Brock said he was delighted State Treasurer Rob Lucas was able to honour the commitment of the previous Government for the funding.

“We resubmitted the funding application to the State Liberal Government and are extremely pleased at the positive outcome,” Mr Brock said.

“The tireless work of chairman Dr Allan Mayfield and members of the Riesling Trail Committee and their supporters is outstanding, and it is wonderful to see the continued care taken to maintain and improve this iconic and popular walking trail.”

The Riesling Trail was built in 1994 and now extends 33km from Barinia to Auburn, where it meets the 19km Rattler Trail from Riverton. It was an initiative of a dedicated local committee and has more than 25,000 users annually. The Riesling Trail is among the top 10 bike friendly wine routes in the World.
