Together with Minister for Transport Minister Mullighan and the State Government, Geoff has been working for the past 18 months regarding the traffic congestion that occurs at times on National Highway 1 at the Yorke Peninsula Copper Coast highway.

Following some of these discussions, the State Government committed $150,000 to undertake a traffic Management Study to identify cost-effective solutions to traffic delays in Port Wakefield.

The Mayors of the local councils, Wakefield Regional Council, District Council Copper Coast, Yorke Peninsula Council, District Council of Barunga west, Port Pirie Regional Council, District Council of Mt Remarkable and the Clare & Gilbert Valley Councils all supported and were united in seeking a solution to the traffic issues experienced at Port Wakefield.

This study has been undertaken and Geoff strongly recommends that Port Wakefield in not bypassed but consideration be taken for dual lanes directly through Port Wakefield that connect with the dual lanes south of the town. At the same time, look at alternative options for ‘crash corner’ north of Port Wakefield.

Current business and future business opportunities in Port Wakefield do not have security. They are insecure with the unknown future whether Port Wakefield will be bypassed or not.

We need to provide security for future development and redevelopment and give Port Wakefield opportunities for employment growth.”
