Premier’s statement on Coronavirus

I have spoken with the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP this afternoon about the Commonwealth Government’s announcement on the new preventative measures to protect Australians from the Coronavirus.

The Prime Minister has advised me that this decision has been taken based on the best advice and it is a measure to protect all Australians.

There is no doubt this announcement will impact South Australia’s economy, but it was a decision taken to protect us and that must be our priority.

The South Australian Government will be working closely with the Commonwealth Government during this period, and I want to assure all South Australians we will be monitoring this situation closely and keeping you abreast of any updates.

There are now two confirmed cases of the virus within South Australia who are both in isolation at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Advice from SA Health is that people who have recently travelled to mainland China, and anyone who has had contact with a confirmed case of novel Coronavirus, must stay isolated for 14 days.

If you do develop symptoms, please ring ahead to your GP to ensure they are able to take the proper precautions.

A Coronavirus health information line is now available on 1800 020 080. Please call this line if you are seeking information on this virus.
