Standing with Our Farmers in the Fight Against Drought
Like so many in our community, I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact this drought is having on or farmers, their families and local businesses. I’ve walked their properties, spoken with them about their struggles and witnessed the toll its taking – not just on livestock and crops but on mental health and livelihoods.
This is why I’ve been fighting for action since 2024. I’ve personally written to the Premier twice, urging immediate support.
Most recently, alongside my four fellow Independent MP’s, we have called for the funding to cover fuel costs for the incredible volunteers at Aussie Hay Runners and other charity runners to bring the much-needed hay from interstate to keep livestock alive.
I’ve also attended numerous charity events and personally contributed to fundraising efforts, but I know that goodwill alone won't be enough . Our farmers need real tangible support. They need action from those in power. This means both State and Federal Governments to provide financial assistance for the health and wellbeing for everyone affected.
I have been running a bit behind getting this post out to you, but I consider having this dialogue, taking action, speaking with the relevant Ministers and charities an absolute priority, but now I'd like to take some time to let you know what I have been doing behind the scenes.
I will continue to lobby for any assistance we can get during this dire time!
