Over 1,300 Visitors Flock to Gladstone Gaol - A step closer to Opening!!
Wow - what an incredible turnout at Gladstone Gaol's open day! Over 1,300 people came through the doors on Sunday, proving just how much interest there is in bringing this historic site back to life as a permanent tourist attraction.
I would like to thank the Gladstone Gaol Working Group which comprises of representatives from the Gladstone Community Development and Tourism Association, the Northern Areas Council, National Trust SA, the Department for Environment and Water, and National Parks and Wildlife. And I cant go past saying a massive thank you to all the dedicated volunteers. All of who made this event such a success. Your hard work and passion made all the difference, and it was inspiring to see the community come together for this special place.
The enthusiasm was overwhelming. The event attracted visitors travelling from Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Adelaide and beyond. The line-up was huge, and the feedback was nothing short of amazing.
David Catford, and the Gladstone Community have been working very closely with Minister Close to get the gaol reopened. The Department for Environment and Water, who manage the site, have some maintenance and repairs to complete, but I'll be pushing for answers on how we can speed up the process.
A thriving Gladstone Gaol means a boost for local business, tourism, and the wider community. We've seen the proof - people want this attraction open! Now, its about working together to make it happen.
