Horrocks Highway (near Wilmington)
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is upgrading a series of bridges and culverts across regional South Australia to extend the service life of the structures and improve safety for road users.
As part of this program, the Department is replacing the bridge over Spring Creek on Horrocks Highway, south of Wilmington. These works are jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments as part of the South Australian Rural Roads Package.
Major works are now complete with finishing works currently underway onsite. Ahead of project completion, expected in mid-October 2023 (weather permitting), spray sealing and line marking works are required. Upon completion, speed limits will be fully reinstated.
What to expect
Works are expected to commence on Monday, 9 October 2023, and will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. No works will be undertaken on Sundays. Works are expected to be completed mid-October 2023 (weather permitting).
To safely undertake these works, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with traffic with controllers in place to control the direction of traffic during work hours. Outside of work hours, traffic will be returned to one lane of traffic in each direction. Speed restrictions will remain in place throughout the work area and will be required at all times until line marking has been completed.
Road users are asked to please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and follow the directions of traffic controllers when travelling through the area. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained at all times during the works.
Access to properties will be maintained throughout the works wherever possible, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict driveway access. Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents, as much as practically possible.
Following completion of these works, the Horrocks Highway, at this location will reopen to traffic, with the posted speed re-instated. The Department appreciates your co-operation and patience while these important works are undertaken.
