Road safety issues along the Owen to Hamley Bridge Road are escalating, according to Member for Frome Geoff Brock MP.
Mr Brock has firsthand experience of the dangerous condition of this road, as he travels it frequently to attend community Listening Posts with constituents.
“I recently drove along this road on a visit to Hamley Bridge/Owen and found the undulation and pavement deteriorations on this road to be a safety concern,” Mr Brock said.
Mr Brock continues to receive requests from constituents to have this road fixed and has taken the issue to State Transport Minister Stephan Knoll.
“I believe the condition of our roads contribute to the safety of our road users and I have asked Minister Knoll to attend to the required road maintenance as a matter of priority.”
Minister Knoll was previously contacted by Mr Brock in February 2019 about the section of road, which is just west of Holman Road and in very bad condition, with undulations and badly deteriorating edges.
At the time, the Minister said the section of Owen Road between Alma Road and Holman Road was to be included in the next multi-year maintenance program at an estimated cost of $500,000.
“A length of about 800 metres appears still not to have been attended to, despite sections of this road being reconstructed and sealed in the past 12 months,” and I will be continually lobbying the Minister to have the road rectified to address the road safety concerns.” Mr Brock said.
The Wakefield Regional Council have supported Mr Brock’s concerns.
