Port Pirie Council hopes a rezoning plan to turn a 58ha former abattoir site into an industrial zone will help generate dozens of extra jobs.McMahon Services are expecting to use a portion of the rezoned land to set up a recycling business with joint venture partner ADM Grain, the world’s biggest grain commodity company, who has recently received development approval to set up a grain bulk-handling and storage facility at the site, providing employment for many in seasonal work and opening the port for export of grain.
The park covers 144 acres and its infrastructure, is likely to be managed by Steve Badman, “It will be the company’s first infrastructure project for grain storage in Australia.” It was hoped the rezoning plan would help the region provide a wider range of jobs, with more diverse employment pathways and opportunities from other industrial companies.
