Marine Scalefish Fishery reform process

A new Fisheries Reform Advisory Committee will work to develop the reform package. The Advisory Committee will undertake further broad industry engagement to explore the implementation of key reforms including: introducing zones, fleet rationalisation, and the introduction of an Individual Transferable Quota system.
The Advisory Committee will include: six members from the commercial MSF, one Rock Lobster Fishery member in recognition of its formal access to marine scalefish species, one recreational fisher in acknowledgment of their significant interest in this shared access fishery, one independent chair, and one independent economist. The Committee will be supported by representatives from PIRSA and SARDI.
The MFA (Marine Fishers Association Inc) encourage fishers to nominate for the Minster’s Fishery Reform Committee and its consultative processes, and thank the Minister’s office for their active communication with key stakeholders, which has laid the foundation for a positive process and effective co-management.
If you wish to nominate for a Marine Scale Fisher position on the Advisory Committee, please contact Mr Jon Presser, Manager Fisheries Reform, PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture via telephone: 8429 0588 or email
Nominations are due on 31 August 2018.
